<< What We Believe

God

There is only one true God.   Deuteronomy 5:6; 6:4

God is the creator and sovereign ruler of the universe and all that is in it.   Genesis 1:1, 26, 27

He has eternally existed in three distinct personalities:  the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.  These three co-exist as the one and only God.    Psalm 90:2; Matt 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 4:4-6

Jesus

Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came to earth to save us from our sins.    Matt 1:21; Luke 19:10; John 3:16; 1 Tim 1:15-17

He lived a sinless life, even though He was tempted in every way, and willingly offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men and women by dying on a cross.    Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-12; Philippians 2:5-11; Hebrews 4:14-15

He demonstrated His power over sin and death by rising from the dead after three days.    1 Corinthians 15:3-4

After His resurrection, Jesus ascended to Heaven and promised to return.    Acts 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

Salvation can only come through Jesus Christ.    Acts 4:12; 1 Cor 1:15-23

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation.    Acts 2:38; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Eph 1:13-14

The Holy Spirit provides the Christian with understanding of spiritual truth and guidance in doing what is right.    Romans 8:26-27; 1 Corinthians 2:12; Gal 5:22-26

Man

We, both men and women, are made in the spiritual image of God…to be like Him in character.    Genesis 1:27

God created us and gave us the ability to make choices in life.  Those choices are often in contradiction to the desires of God for us.  Because of that, we are all guilty of rebellion and disobedience against God, which is called sin ("missing the mark").  That sin separates us from God.      Romans 3:23; Isaiah 53:6; 59:1-2

The Bible

The Bible is the inspired Word of God and as such, is the final authority in the church as well as life itself.    2 Timothy 3:16; Psalms 119:105, 160

The Bible consist of letters or books that were written by men who were inspired by the spirit of God and are therefore without error.    Proverbs 30:5; 2 Peter 1:12-21

God’s character and will is revealed to us through His Word.    1 Cor 15:3-4

The principals of the Word of God are applicable for all generations.    Psalm 119:160

Faith

Faith is a belief in or confident attitude toward God, involving commitment to His will for one’s life.

Faith is a part of the Christian life from beginning to end.  It is the instrument by which the gift of salvation is received.    Ephesians 2:8-9

Salvation comes about through faith.    Galatians 2:16

Faith is considered righteousness.    Romans 4:3, 9

Faith is not the work of human beings.    Romans 4:5

Faith is the gift and work of God.    John 6:28-29; Ephesians 2:8; Philippians 1:29

Sanctification

Sin separates us from God.  Sanctification is the process by which we are reunited with God through Christ.  As sin is removed from our life via the Word of God (John 17:7) and the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:3-4), we become dedicated to God’s righteousness.

Sanctification results in our holiness or purification from the guilt and power of sin in our lives.

Justification

Christianity is unique within the religious world in that it teaches at the core of its doctrine, that all men are sinners and as such are justified by grace through the blood of Jesus Christ.   Romans 3:23-24

Justification is God’s declaration that the demands of His Law have been fulfilled in the righteousness of His Son.  2 Cor 5:19

Justification covers all sin.  Hebrews 10:14

It is based solely on the work of Christ, made possible through the shedding of His blood and brought forth by His resurrection.  Romans 4:25

When God justifies man, He charges the sin of man to Christ and credits the righteousness of Christ to the believer.  2 Cor 5:21

Thus, through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life” (Rom 5:18).  Because this righteousness is “the righteousness of God” which is “apart from the law” (Romans 3:21), it is thorough; therefore, a believer is “justified from all things” (Acts 13:39); God is “just” because His holy standard of perfect righteousness has been fulfilled in Christ, and He is the “justifier” because his righteousness is freely given to the believer.  (Romans 3:26; 5:16)

Jesus paid the price for our justification, however, it is only through faith that He is received and His righteousness is experienced and enjoyed.  Romans 3:25-30

Salvation

God, out of love for His children, sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins on the cross of Calvary. After which he rose from the dead to bring life and salvation to all who would believe.  1 Corinthians 15:1-8

Salvation is the free gift of God; not obtainable by any measure of human effort or contribution.  It was made possible by the death of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary and that is the only means by which our reconciliation with God is possible.  John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; Hebrews 9:15-17; 26-28

While it is true that all have sinned, it is also true that all can be saved.  Romans 3:23; Acts 2:39

Salvation is obtainable for all who will obey the teachings of Jesus Christ.  Matt 19:17; 28:19-20; Luke 11:28; John 14:23

The Bible teaches the following with regard to salvation:

  1. You must believe in Christ’s power to save.  Acts 16:31-33; Galatians 3:2
  2. You must confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  Romans 10:9
  3. You must genuinely repent of your sins.  Luke 13:3; Acts 2:38; 3:19; 17:30
  4. You must come in contact with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ through the act of Baptism.  Romans 6:3-4; 1 Peter 3:21
  5. You receive forgiveness and the gift of God’s Holy Spirit as you are raised to walk in a newness of life after baptism.  Acts 16:31-33; Galatians 3:29; Titus 3:3-7
  6. You are to live faithfully according to God’s standards.  Romans 14:7-8; Ephesians 4:1; 2 Peter 3:11; 1 John 2:24-25
